And now there is a new one which will definitely be going on my own list, and near the top of it - Skellig by David Almond. To me the latter two rise beyond any children/adult categorisation, especially as the writing is superior to that of many adult novels. There are so many other people to choose from. If I found out something unsavoury about an author I enjoyed I guess it would depend on how bad I thought it was. I wouldn't want to buy the books of somebody who was using their money to fund far-right hate groups, but if it somebody who made a couple of sexist remarks off-the-cuff, I don't suppose I'd stop reading them.Chloehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00183206722136871230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650080146272323615.post-27028729519906121682016-10-04T16:44:02.119+01:002016-10-04T16:44:02.119+01:00What an interesting post. If I learn an author is an out and out racist (or sexist) and is writing in this age of books, I would not follow or read that author's books. After all, there are so many other good authors out there who have enlightened attitudes one hopes humanity keeps growing toward. However, if a century ago the author showed lack of awareness, I might give them a few chances to show growth in other books. If, however, they were clearly racist or sexist, then they wouldn't be on my TBR list.Elizabeth Varadan, Authorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01708206753256682635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650080146272323615.post-11269845799589534382016-10-01T11:01:42.586+01:002016-10-01T11:01:42.586+01:00'Extremely loud and incredibly close' by J...'Extremely loud and incredibly close' by Jonathan Safran Foer. I didn't expect to recognise many, nor to have read any, but I was pleasantly surprised. In 1957 there was 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac', 'Dr Zhivago', 'The Way of Zen' by Alan Watts, The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham, The Scapegoat by Daphne du Maurier, and 'The Cat in the Hat', which I remember reading at school and thinking how weird it was - but in a good way!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650080146272323615.post-57507638322656391702016-08-23T13:58:17.282+01:002016-08-23T13:58:17.282+01:00Good effort on watching it, Dan!
